As we take on life, it repeatedly occurs where you get into a mental state of self-awareness, where you have deep thoughts about life, both your own and others’. When we feel emotional or perform an action beyond our wildest imagination, we tend to enter into a state of complete openness.
Regardless of what it is, it is common to go through these parts of life and here are several things that make you pause and think about life in general:
1. Death of a person close to you.
You cannot prepare for this. Nothing in life can help you prepare for the inevitable loss of someone that meant the world to you. It is a wake-up call for your soul, reminding us that we only have one shot at life, and thus, we must live it to the fullest. Love as much as you can, play like you are still a toddler, give everything you got when you are working towards something you are passionate about, and always remember to be grateful for what you are blessed with.
2. Emigrating to a new city or country.
As a young adult, you want to believe that you have your life all figured out. However, moving to another country or even a new city can be a wonderful experience to go through. You will learn so much not only about the unique culture but also about yourself.
3. Having an open discussion with someone about religion.
This will definitely make you realise that our world is so diverse in so many ways. Everyone has their own views, opinions, thoughts, and beliefs, making the world a beautiful place.
4. Meeting a like-minded person.
It is an absolute joy in life to find that one person who truly understands you for what and who you are. When both of you have respect for each other differences and recognise that they are unique to the individual without judgement, it just makes you feel like the world is a place unlike any other.
5. Being sad without a logical explanation.
There were days where I woke up feeling cranky and was in no mood to speak with people, including my loved ones. Nothing happened. I did not wake up with a hangover – my mental state just did not want to function properly. No matter what you do, you just cannot shake off the foul mood. Fret no, my fellow earthlings, that is normal. Sometimes, you undoubtedly needed a mental recalibration, and it offers you an opportunity to take a step back and look at things from a different angle.
6. When you miss your goal.
When you were a kid, you dreamed of being a pilot. Fast forward to the present, and you are nowhere near that dream. That is okay; failing is just life’s way of teaching you how to get back on your feet. It offers you valuable lessons and forces you not to make the same mistakes in the future. Sometimes, hardship is needed to make us wiser.
7. Discovering your lifelong passion.
No one wants to waste their time by thinking about what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Finding a passion in life is one thing that everyone wants. Some people have been able to find their lifelong passion faster than others. If you are still searching for it, do not rush. Enjoy the challenge, and whatever you do, do not give up – it is worth it eventually, I assure you.
8. Being smiled at by a stranger.
No amount of words can explain how good it feels to see a total stranger giving you a genuine smile. It brightens your mood and reminds you that you are not the only one on this planet.
Final 2¢: Enjoy the Process
Life does not come with a manual guide, and that is the best part–we all get to decide how we want to live our lives. We get to decide whether to make it exciting or boring. However, we need to pause for a moment when we are getting ahead of ourselves and remind ourselves what life is all about.
